Prescription or non-prescription (over-the-counter) medications may only be taken at school if there are signed, specific written directions from a licensed health care professional and signed written permission from a parent or guardian on an ASD Medication Authorization Form. When possible, medication doses should be scheduled during non-school hours. For students who require medication while at school, specifications must be followed before medication can be given. Medication must be brought to the school by a parent or guardian in a properly labeled original pharmacy container. If possible, it is encouraged to bring medication that doesn’t expire until the end of June of the current school year. Medication Authorization Forms are valid for one school year and must be updated at the beginning of each school year. Medication that must be administered on a field trip or other school sponsored event, overnight or otherwise, these medication regulations also apply and require a current ASD Medication Authorization Form.
If your child requires medication during school hours, please contact your child’s school to talk with the school nurse.
